Trail horse rides, though the forests of Oueteniqua

Helen Thompson says that in riding a horse we borrow freedom! How very apt, as you will be experiencing pure joy and bliss on our well trained and happy mounts. The horses are all a part of our family and do take care of you, our guests. They are lively to ride, yet gentle with the beginners ornervous riders. Most of our horses are not just used simply for trail riding, but also enjoy other activities and some are stunt horses that are trained for the film and commercial industry - so no bored and broken spirited horses on our farm! All trails are accompanied by 1 or 2 experienced guides and the groups are kept small, for maximum enjoyment for our guests.

We offer a variety of trails to suit your various needs for a leisurely 1 hr trail through a Gum Tree forest. This ride is suitable for a family with small children.

Also through the Gum Forest a 1.5 hr trail is suitable for all those that wish to have a shorter Ride. This ride is very tranquil and sightings of baboons and other small game occur occasionally. For the experienced riders and the gutsy ones we trot and canter on these rides.

We then have a trail through the Garden Route National Park that goes through Pine Plantations, the superb indigenous forests and comes out at a small waterfall. We dismount at the waterfall, weather permitting you can either swim, or explore the stunning beauty of the area, before heading back on the trail towards home. Bird life is abundant and alive as you ride through the indigenous forest, resembling jungle of ferns, huge yellow wood trees, glistering either in the sunlight that shines through the rooftop or the morning mist or dew . It is an absolutely incredibly beautiful trail. On those very hot days for the experienced riders a swim with the horses at the waterfall, refreshes both horse and rider. The duration of this trail is approximately 2.5 to 3 hrs and is totally suitable for the beginner riders and children from about 8 years old.

The longer ride up to the White river riding through the mountain ranges of indigenous forests, you will find yourself surrounded by unsurpassed beauty. This trail is suitable only for experienced and fit riders. Duration of this trail with a picnic at the White River is approx 4-4.5 hrs.

For group bookings of 4-6 experienced riders we offer a trail through the mountains into the Klein Karoo. This is a 4 day trail, with overnight accommodation. The elusive Knysna Elephants were spotted on this trail a few months ago! Once again you will ride through the forests, ride above the treetop line, walk up a mountain range to enter the Klein Karoo to overnight at the guest lodge Louvain. Dinner will be arranged for you, as well as all the snacks and lunches along the way.
